The Boston neighborhoods of Allston and Brighton are known for their vibrant and youthful energy, full of history and entertainment. With electric nightlife and beautiful views, this area of one of America's oldest cities is a fantastic place to call home

Since its founding in 1630, Boston has been an enduring hub of history, culture, and community. The area has a rich local culture, with distinct neighborhoods clustering together. While Allston and Brighton are technically two separate areas, locals refer to them as simply “Allston-Brighton.” Both neighborhoods are rich in history, with landmarks designated by the National Register of Historic Places

Allston is home to the historic Commonwealth Avenue, along which grand brick apartment buildings are situated. Many single-family homes are also available, typically Victorian in style and built in the early 20th century

People & Lifestyle

Both Allston and Brighton are known to locals as eclectic and peaceful towns, with plenty of youthful energy. Brighton especially has a more suburban feel, offering residents a comfortable place to call home within a busy city

The Allston/Brighton area has a youthful population due to the many colleges and universities located nearby. Many young people stay in the area after graduation or to continue their studies, leading to a lower average age than other city populations. Of course, there are also long-time residents who have called Allston/Brighton home for years

Dining, Shopping, & Entertainment

Due to its generally younger residents, Allston/Brighton has great nightlife and no shortage of cool things to do and try. From restaurants to bars to shopping, there's always something exciting going on.

For shoppers, Copley Place is a must-visit. The luxury shopping destination is much more than a mall, with delicious food stands, fabulous seafood restaurants, and grand department stores. Favorites like Home Goods and Urban Outfitters are nearby, as are trendy boutiques like Vivant Vintage.

Grab a bite to eat at Lulu's Allston, a charming spot on Cambridge street featuring mid-century modern decor and some delicious brunch food. Locals also love Twin Donuts, a breakfast shop that serves delicious treats and coffee. There's also the Japanese noodle house Totto Ramen, lively Irish pub Porter Belly's, and locals love hanging out at Brighton Bodega, a bar with a modern feel and street food-inspired dining. Devlin's Restaurant is a great place to grab drinks with friends while enjoying live music or a trivia night, and Stockyard is a popular steakhouse.

Things to Do

Even located in the heart of a busy city, Allston/Brighton features plenty of ways to get some exercise in the great outdoors. Ringer Park, right off Commonwealth Avenue, features walking paths, basketball and tennis courts, and a playground for kids to enjoy.

Allston/Brighton plays host to a number of fun traditions, the best-known being Allston Christmas. Despite its holiday-themed name, this actually occurs on the first day of September each year, as student apartment leases are up. Students will leave items on the sidewalk which are up for grabs. Athletic locals love to participate in the Boston Marathon, and music fans can catch a concert at Brighton Music Hall/p>

Boston is an active city, with many Allston/Brighton residents spending time in nature. You can stroll along the Charles River Esplanade or even kayak or sail on the water. Rogers Park is the perfect place for sports lovers, with tennis, baseball, and basketball facilities available. The beautiful Gallagher Park can be found in Brighton, along with Chandler Pond

Schools

Allston/Brighton is known for its proximity to many excellent colleges and universities, but the public school system is stellar as well. Part of the Boston School District, Allston/Brighton is home to four public elementary schools and three secondary schools. Other educational opportunities include:
